Netgear manufactures AC1900 routers as well as extenders that can convert an ordinary house into an internet hub. This page will cover the instructions to complete the Nighthawk AC1900 setup for routers and extenders. FYI, both products can be installed using the Nighthawk app. However, we are providing the setup instructions using the manual method.

- Make sure that the connection is stable and secure.
- Now, switch on the router and connect your PC to its WiFi network.
- You will be taken to the setup page of the router.
- If the setup wizard does not open, type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar and press Enter.
- The wizard will then open up.
- Take the help of the instructions appearing on the dashboard of the router for setup.
This is how you can complete Nighthawk AC1900 setup for a router. The router can be managed through the routerlogin.com URL as well as the Nighthawk app. Now, let’s move to learn the setup instructions for a range extender.
How to Set Up Nighthawk AC1900 Extender?
The Nighthawk AC1900 extender and router have WPS buttons. Therefore, you can use the WPS method for their connection. Here’s how:
- Place the AC1900 extender and AC1900 router in the same room.
- Restart the router and power up the extender after that.
- When the lights stabilize, press the router’s WPS button.
- Within 2 minutes, press the Nighthawk extender’s WPS button.
- Repeat the above 2 steps again for the 5GHz connection.
- The setup is complete.
Note: You can also use the manual method to set up the Nighthawk extender. For that, access mywifiext.net on a browser and follow the on-screen prompts. However, for that, your PC must be connected to the Netgear_EXT network i.e. the default network of Nighthawk AC1900 extender.
How to Update Nighthawk AC1900 Firmware?
No matter whether you have a router or extender, you have to update it so that it can work with the advanced features without any problem. The steps given below will help you learn firmware update for Nighthawk AC1900 router and extender:
- Open a web browser on your computer.
- To update firmware of extender you should connect PC to extender’s WiFi. The same thing applies to the router.
- Go to routerlogin.com (router) or access 192.168.1.250 (extender).
- Select the Management option as soon as you log in to your Nighthawk AC1900.
- Find Firmware Update.
- Click Check Now.
- Update the firmware of your device by following the on-screen prompts.
You are not supposed to interrupt the firmware update process by disconnecting your PC from internet or refreshing the browser tab. Your device will restart when the process will be completed.
How to Reset Nighthawk AC1900?
You might need to reset your Nighthawk AC1900 router or extender under various circumstances. However, you should definitely perform a factory reset when the Nighthawk device is not working or the Netgear Genie login details fail to work for you. Here are the steps you should follow to reset the device:
- Ensure that the router or extender is getting enough power supply.
- Find the Reset button.
- Grab a pointed object.
- Press the button using that object and hold for a few seconds.
- The router/extender will restart indicating the factory reset is completed.
In this way, you can reset your Nighthawk. Know that a factory reset erases every customized setting from the AC1900 device. Thus, you will have to complete Nighthawk AC1900 setup once again using the default Nighthawk mesh router login (router) or mesh extender login details (extender).
